SaaS Management: MongoDB Atlas Connector

̽»¨´óÉñ® SaaS Management gives you visibility and control over shadow IT and SaaS app use within your org. Connectors detect shadow IT without adoption of a browser extension and provide a significant increase to the valuable usage and security insights.

The MongoDB Atlas Connector retrieves user information from the MongoDB Atlas Administration API. Using periodic polling for regular updates, it captures new users and new application associations to keep data accurate and up-to-date.

Prerequisites

  • You must be a MongoDB organization owner to create a service account.

Considerations

  • Based on your organization’s size, the initial collection of data may take some time, up to an hour. 

Configuring MongoDB

  1. Log in to MongoDB Atlas.
  2. In the left menu, under the Identity & Access tab, go to Applications.
  3. Click Add New > Service Account.
  4. Enter a Name and Description for the service account.
  5. Select Client Secret Expiration.

Important:

You must rotate this secret manually, and update your connector credentials after rotation.

  1. Under Organization Permissions add the required permissions.
  2. Copy and save the following values:
    • Client ID
    • Client Secret
      • The secret only appears once. Save it before closing the window.
  3. Proceed to configure ̽»¨´óÉñ in the following section.

Configuring ̽»¨´óÉñ

  1. Log in to the .
  2. Go to SECURITY MANAGEMENT > SaaS Management.
  3. In SaaS Management settings, go to the Connector tab and select + Add Connector.
  1. Click the MongoDB Atlas connector.
  2. Configure the following settings:
    1. Enter a Connector name.
    2. For the Client ID and Client Secret, paste the values from MongoDB.
  3. Click Connect and then Save Connector.
  4. You will now see MongoDB in your list of Connectors.

Note:

If permissions are accidentally removed, or if the admin who configured left your organization, the connector will stop working and you will be prompted to Reconnect.

Uninstall/Remove

  • On the Connector’s detail page, click on Delete Connector and follow the prompts.
  • To revoke the permissions granted to ̽»¨´óÉñ, delete the service account created in MongoDB Atlas.
