Troubleshoot: Policy Failing Due to Missing PS1 File

Policies sometimes fail due to a missing PS1 file. This article will help troubleshoot this error.

Description

The policy will fail with exit status code of
4294770688exit status 0xfffd0000: The argument 'C:\Program Files\̽»¨´óÉñ\policies\POLICYNAME.ps1' to the -File parameter does not exist. Provide the path to an existing '.ps1' file as an argument to the -File parameter

Symptoms

No policy will apply to the device when you encounter this error.

Possible Resolutions

Unbind and Rebind the Policy: If you're encountering issues with a policy not applying correctly to a device, one common troubleshooting step is to unbind and then rebind the policy associated with the affected device. After rebinding the policy, perform a reboot on the device to see if the issue has resolved.

Policies Folder: To ensure that the necessary scripts are present, follow these steps.

  1. Navigate to the Policies Folder: On the affected device, navigate to the following directory:C:\Program Files\̽»¨´óÉñ\policies
  2. Verify Scripts: Ensure that the required scripts are present in this folder. When a policy is bound to a device, ̽»¨´óÉñ runs the scripts from this location to apply the necessary changes to the system, including registry modifications.
    • If the policy scripts are missing, it may indicate that they were accidentally removed or corrupted.
    • When the ̽»¨´óÉñ agent is installed, the scripts for existing policies are placed in this directory by default. If the scripts for the policy you applied are missing, the device may fail to apply the policy correctly.
  3. Copy Scripts from a Functional Device: If you have another device where the policy is working, you can copy the contents of the policies folder from that device to the affected device. This should restore any missing scripts.

Update the ̽»¨´óÉñ Agent: If your ̽»¨´óÉñ agent is running an older version, updating to the latest version may resolve the issue. The update process will overwrite the existing policies directory, ensuring that all necessary policy scripts are in place.

Reinstall the ̽»¨´óÉñ Agent: If updating the agent doesn't resolve the issue, you can try uninstalling and reinstalling the ̽»¨´óÉñ agent on the affected device. This process will ensure that the latest policies and scripts are properly deployed.

Capture Logs for Further Troubleshooting: If the above steps do not resolve the issue, you can use the ̽»¨´óÉñ Log Collection Script to gather detailed logs for further investigation. See Use ̽»¨´óÉñ Log Collection Scripts to learn more.

Conclusion

The above steps should resolve issues related to policy application. However, if the problem persists, capturing the logs will help ̽»¨´óÉñ Support investigate the issue further.
